COALITION MEETING TO EXTEND THE ACCELERATING PROGRESS TO END CHILD MARRIAGE

 

Joy for Children Uganda (JFCU), the national coordinator for the Girls not Brides alliance on Friday, 5th February 2021, hosted members of Cabinet  Lugabara Kari, the traditional leadership of the Lugbara people of West Nile; Amani Initiative, the regional  coordinator for the Girls not Brides Alliance (West Nile and Northern Uganda), whose work supports young people especially in response and prevention of violence against girls in Maracha District and; Mentorship and Empowerment for Young Women and Girls (MEMPROW Uganda), to a coalition meeting, to extend the Accelerating progress to End Child Marriage in Uganda Program in Lugbara region. It also focused on bringing on board  Lugbara Kari as a recognized partner in the implementation of  the program goals.

This meeting was hosted at Ediofe Youth Center Arua City. Starting at 10:00am, the 3 hour meeting discussed on the status of Child marriage in the Lugbara region; the role of the cultural institutions in ending child marriages and teenage pregnancies. It further delved into the local remedies in place enforced by Lugbara Kari and the way forward as partners in achieving desired outcomes of the program.
