Mrs Olama Florence

Mrs Olama Florence, a village health team member and an entrepreneur is a mentor and has played a great role as a mentor in the lives of the child mothers and young girls in Pokweru parish, Panyango Sub County. Her mentorship to the child mothers has changed the lives of many young girls in her village with evidence of some returning to formal education, others joined informal education and done tailoring and hair dressing courses respectively.

Her strong commitment has enabled the sustainability of the group formed under MEMPROW project as the group still conducts their regular meetings, she conducts psychosocial support to the girls in her community, she leads the group in conducting community peer education through sensitizing them about the dangers of early marriages and teenage pregnancies. Also she has spear headed a campaign to create safe space for the girls in her community. Florence being a member of the VHT volunteers at Pokweru Health centre III in her village to enable the young girls receives SRHR services. With this she consents with the parents of the child mothers to avoid second pregnancies and enable them achieve their aspirations in life. Working with MEMPROW has given her so much knowledge through the trainings she has acquired through MEMPROW programs which she has used to build and strengthen her community attitude on how they look at a girl child. It is been four years and still going very strong since 2018 to date, we celebrate you this Women’s Day Florence.
