1) Pioneering Stress and Trauma Management Among Feminists and Frontline Responders
(stories from police; embody activism doc)

For the past five years, we have made a significant commitment to fostering wellness, psychosocial support, and stress and trauma management among our staff, partners, and the communities we serve. Recognizing the profound impact of trauma and stress on individuals and communities, particularly those working directly with survivors of violence, we have implemented comprehensive strategies to build resilience and enhance response capacities

Our work with survivors of violence, necessitates direct engagement with individuals who have experienced traumatic events. The demanding nature of this work, coupled with the complexities of supporting survivors, can lead to significant stress and secondary trauma among our beneficiaries, Partners and staff. To effectively address this challenge and optimize our service delivery, we have prioritized the well-being of our personnel.

Our strategy to mitigate stress and trauma has encompassed the following key components:

  • Specialized Training: Over 200 individuals, including law enforcement, government officials, and community leaders, have successfully completed our foundational training in counseling, stress, and trauma management. This training equips participants with essential skills to identify, manage, and support individuals affected by traumatic experiences.
  • Capacity Building: We have collaborated closely with Parents of child mothers and community Structures like Women Advisors to enhance their ability to prevent and respond to violence. By strengthening their capacity, we empower them to provide crucial support to survivors while safeguarding their own mental health.
  • Integration of Trauma-Informed Practices: The knowledge and skills acquired through our training have been systematically incorporated into service delivery by different Actors/ trainees. This ensures that frontline responders can offer trauma-informed care to survivors and foster a supportive environment for all and also themselves.

We are proud to be a pioneer in stress and trauma management for feminists and frontline responders. Our commitment to the well-being of our staff and partners has not only strengthened our ability to support survivors of violence but has also created a more resilient and compassionate organization. We will continue to invest in this critical area to ensure that our work is grounded in empathy, understanding, and care.
