Equipping Teachers to Support Child Mothers in Pakwach District
Pakwach, Uganda – August 30, 2024 — The Pakwach District Local Government, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has successfully conducted a four-day training program for teachers from August 27th to 30th, 2024. This initiative aimed to empower educators with the necessary knowledge and skills to foster a safer, more supportive, and protective learning environment for all children, particularly pregnant girls and child mothers.
The training is a significant step towards realizing the objectives outlined in the Pakwach District Education Ordinance, 2022, which advocates for inclusive education and the reintegration of child mothers into schools. By equipping teachers with the skills to recognize signs of violence against children and understand children's rights, the program aims to create stigma-free school environments.
"We believe that empowering teachers with these critical skills is essential to ensuring that all children, regardless of their circumstances, receive a quality education in a safe environment," said [Insert name], a representative from the Pakwach District Local Government. "Our goal is to foster a culture of inclusivity and support, where every child feels valued and protected."
The training also focused on equipping teachers with the skills to identify early signs of violence and abuse against children, thereby enhancing their capacity to respond effectively and create safe spaces within schools. Educators were also guided on how to develop and implement school-based policies that align with the district's ordinance, ensuring a holistic approach to child protection.
By promoting the adoption of these practices, Pakwach District is setting a precedent for other districts to follow in ensuring that every child, particularly those in vulnerable situations, has access to education in a supportive environment. This initiative marks a crucial step in the fight against stigma and discrimination in schools, encouraging the full reintegration of child mothers and other marginalized groups into the education system.
